Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is a popular fertility treatment in Singapore due to its affordability compared to other assisted reproductive techniques like in vitro fertilisation (IVF). The cost of IUI varies depending on whether the procedure is performed at public hospitals or private clinics, as well as the specific services included in the treatment package.
What is IUI?
IUI is a type of fertility treatment that helps to increase your chances of pregnancy by placing your partner’s sperm directly into your womb. It is often the first step in fertility treatment for many patients who choose to undergo assisted reproductive treatment. It's also a great option for those dealing with PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome), poor ovulation, mild sperm abnormality, and other fertility issues.
What is the cost of IUI in Singapore?
At public hospitals such as NUH, SGH, and KKH, the cost of an IUI procedure ranges from SGD $660 to $760, excluding GST.
This price does not include additional expenses such as doctor consultation fees, medications, and diagnostic tests.
Private clinics
In private fertility centres, the cost for a single IUI cycle is higher, typically ranging from SGD $1,800 to $3,000. This amount usually includes doctor consultation fees, injections, ultrasound scans, hormonal medications (hCG) and blood tests. Subsequent cycles within six months (if an HIV test remains valid) may cost around SGD $700 to $900.
Some clinics offer more affordable packages starting at SGD $880 to $1,000, but these often exclude additional costs for medications and investigations.
Additional costs
Diagnostic tests such as semen analysis or hormone testing can add SGD $96 to $600 depending on the complexity of the tests required.
Medications and ovulation induction injections may also increase the overall cost by up to SGD $2,000 per cycle.

Can I use my insurance plan to cover my IUI treatment?
Most insurance plans do not cover maternity-related costs.
Coverage for IVF/IUI treatment is oftentimes a supplementary benefit that is added on to a hospitalisation plan. The waiting period for such plans is usually 12 months, meaning you can only claim on the plan 12 months after it commences.
The claims are generally subject to the following caps:
$20,000 per pregnancy for natural deliveries and caesareans
$30,000 per pregnancy for emergency caesareans
$4,000 per cycle for fertility treatments.
Each cycle includes all imaging, medical investigations, hospital expenses (both in- and outpatient), and other medical fees. The cycle starts with all the necessary medical care required for the covered fertility treatment and ends with an insemination or embryo transfer. The coverage is limited to 3 cycles per lifetime.
Some insurance plans for 'expectant mom' and 'baby coverage' may include pregnancies via IVF or IUI, but these plans will not cover the infertility treatments themselves. Instead, they will cover pregnancy complications for the mother, congenital illnesses for the baby, and hospitalisation for the baby due to certain diseases. There is usually an option for the mother to transfer the life insurance policy to the baby within 60 days of birth, without any medical underwriting.
