What is Endometriosis?

Endometriosis is a disease where tissue similar to uterine lining grows outside the uterus, leading to inflammation and scar tissue forming in the pelvic region. Endometriosis may make it harder to get pregnant.

The most common symptom is painful menstruation, while others include intermenstrual bleeding and irregular menstrual staining, abdominal bloating, nausea or vomiting during menstruation, painful defecation or urination, and chronic pelvic pain.

Treatment options include lifestyle changes, over-the-counter pain relievers, medication to reduce or suppress menstruation, and surgery to remove large endometriotic ovarian cysts and/or endometrial lesions.
