Dr Cheng Hung Henry is an obstetrician and gynaecologist practising at Astra Women's Specialists, in Novena and Bishan. Dr Cheng has over three decades of experience in the field. He is a leading expert in Foetal Medicine, with extensive training and expertise in high-risk pregnancy, prenatal diagnostics, and obstetric care.
Dr Cheng’s specialities include prenatal diagnostic services, ultrasound scanning, and comprehensive obstetric care. He also has a keen interest in computer software and electronic medical equipment, contributing to the development and advisory of medical technologies used both in Singapore and internationally.
Dr Cheng completed his basic medical degree at the University of Malaya in 1982. He received specialist training in Singapore and furthered his expertise by obtaining a post-graduate degree in the United Kingdom. Dr Cheng trained in Foetal Medicine under Professor Kypros Nicolaides at the Harris Birthright Research Centre, Kings College Hospital in London, a leading institution in the field. His research data with Professor Nicolaides laid the groundwork for the OSCAR test, now used worldwide for first trimester Down’s syndrome screening. Dr Cheng also conducted further research at University College London and the University of Nottingham, contributing extensively to scientific publications.
Before establishing his private practice, Dr Cheng served as a senior consultant at the Singapore General Hospital's Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, where he was head of the Foetal Medicine Division. In this role, he provided prenatal diagnostic services and developed software for ultrasound scanning and obstetrics. He was also actively involved in the education and training of medical students, specialists-in-training, and fellow specialists. Furthermore, Dr Cheng engages the public through forums and talks, sharing his expertise on prenatal and obstetric care.
Dr Cheng’s passion for technology extends beyond medical practice. He is a medical advisor for various medical software and electronic companies, contributing to the creation of innovative medical equipment. This includes devices widely used in Singapore and other countries for monitoring the well-being of adults and babies using wireless RFID technology.
