Dr Clarissa Cheng is a Senior Consultant Ophthalmologist, with over 15 years of medical practice. She’s the Medical Director at Lumin Eye Specialists, as well as a visiting consultant at Thomson Specialists Woodleigh.

Dr Cheng’s clinical interests include complex cataract surgery, retinal detachment repair, diabetic eye disease management, macular hole repair, epiretinal membrane peel, retinal lasers, intravitreal injection, myopia degeneration, and general ophthalmology. She also treats pterygium, glaucoma, dry eyes, and blepharitis.

Dr Cheng completed her undergraduate medical training at St Bartholomew’s and the Royal London School of Medicine and Dentistry and earned her master's degree in ophthalmology from the National University of Singapore. She is a fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, UK, and the Academy of Medicine, Singapore. She was awarded the Health Manpower Development Plan award and underwent a clinical fellowship in retina at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, UK, where she trained in small incision vitrectomy surgery, complex retinal detachment repair, macular surgery, diabetic eye disease, age-related macular degeneration, and ocular trauma.

Before entering private practice, Dr Cheng served as a consultant at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH), where she established the nurse-led intravitreal service. She continues to serve as a visiting consultant in their ophthalmology department and has received the Long Service Award (10 years) at TTSH.

Apart from her clinical work, Dr Cheng’s other areas of interest include education and research. She is a clinical lecturer at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine. She has presented at numerous conferences internationally and published in major peer-reviewed journals.
