Dr Thng Yongxian is a Fellowship-trained Hepatopancreatobiliary and General Surgeon at Nexus Surgical. His practice encompasses comprehensive care for patients with conditions affecting the liver, pancreas, gallbladder and biliary system.
Dr Thng provides specialised surgical services focusing on hepatopancreatobiliary conditions, including the treatment of pancreatic cancer, liver cancer, gallbladder and biliary cancer. He offers expertise in managing various conditions such as pancreatic cysts, pancreatitis, liver cysts, gallstones and bile duct stone disease. His scope of practice includes hernia surgery, small bowel surgery, surgical oncology and minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery. He also performs diagnostic procedures including gastroscopy and colonoscopy.
Dr Thng received his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery form The National University of Singapore Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. Subsequently, he completed his basic and advanced surgical training at the National University hospital and was admitted to the Specialist Accreditation Board Singapore as a Specialised surgeon. Concomitantly, he was admitted as a Fellow to both the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh (FRCS) and the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (FAMS). He pursued his subspecialty training in Hepatopancreatobiliary surgery first in the Department of Hepatopancreatobiliary Surgery, Singapore General Hospital, following which he pursued a clinical fellowship in minimally invasive Hepatopancreatobiliary Surgery in Seoul National University Hospital, Bundang South Korea.
Prior to joining Nexus Surgical Associates, Dr Thng served as a Consultant at the Department of General Surgery, Ng Teng Fong General Hospital (NTFGH) and the National University Health System, Singapore. As the Clinical Lead of the Hepatopancreatobiliary Division, he pioneered minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery for complex pancreatic and liver surgery at NTFGH, achieving minimally invasive approaches in up to 80% of complex hepatopancreatobiliary cases.
As a Senior Clinical Lecturer at NUS School of Medicine, Dr Thng contributes to medical education as an examiner at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. His commitment to advancing medical science is evident through his research contributions, including receiving an A-STAR-Medtech innovation grant for developing a novel wearable in-sole. He has published in international peer-reviewed journals and presented his surgical techniques at international conferences. Dr Thng has also served on the Ministry of Health (MOH) Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy Clinician workgroup for value-driven care.
