Dr Winston Woon Wei Liang is a General Surgeon at Prime Surgery (Orchard and Novena) and Unitas Surgical Clinic (Joo Chiat and Orchard). He practises general surgery with an emphasis on minimally invasive techniques and performs endoscopic procedures including gastroscopy and colonoscopy.
Dr Woon specialises in laparoscopic and robotic surgery for conditions involving the hernia, gallbladder, liver, pancreas and bile ducts. His surgical procedures include laparoscopic herniorrhaphy, diagnostic and therapeutic upper GI endoscopy, laparoscopic cholecystectomy, diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy and laparoscopic appendectomy.
Dr Woon completed his medical training in 1998 with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) at University of New South Wales. He also completed a Bachelor of Science (Medicine) in New South Wales, Australia.
Dr Woon then undertook specialist surgical training in Australia, including two years of subspeciality training in laparoscopic upper gastrointestinal, liver and pancreatic surgery for both benign and malignant conditions. During this time, he also participated in kidney and liver transplantation at the Prince of Wales Hospital and the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Australia.
Following his tenure, he became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS), a surgical qualification awarded to doctors who have successfully completed several years of rigorous surgical training.
Prior to his current position, Dr Woon was a senior consultant surgeon at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH). From 2010 to 2018, he was the Head of the Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) Surgical Service. Under his leadership, TTSH was accredited as a training hospital for the Australian & New Zealand Hepatic, Pancreatic & Biliary Association fellowship programme.
Dr Woon currently serves as President of the Hepato Pancreato Biliary Association (Singapore). Throughout his career, he has performed more than 3,000 laparoscopic procedures and introduced laparoscopic and robotic liver, pancreas and biliary surgery to TTSH in 2010. He is an active participant at international conferences and has published research in peer-reviewed medical and surgical journals.
