Dr John Yam Pei Yuan is an obstetrician and gynaecologist practising at AcuFem Women's Specialist Services, in Orchard.

Dr Yam has a special interest in minimally invasive gynaecological surgery, employing both keyhole and conventional methods for treating gynaecological conditions. He is dedicated to pregnancy care, particularly in monitoring the mother and her foetus during labour and delivery. His expertise extends to fertility and reproductive endocrinology, where he is skilled in insemination, ovulation induction, controlled ovarian stimulation, and in vitro fertilisation. His surgical repertoire covers a comprehensive range of procedures, including diagnostic and therapeutic hysteroscopy, laparoscopic surgery for conditions such as endometriosis, myomectomy, and ectopic pregnancy, as well as complex treatments like hysteroscopic adhesiolysis and laparoscopic hysterectomy.

Dr Yam received his medical training from the National University of Singapore (NUS). After completing his internship and clinical rotations in surgery and neonatology, he pursued postgraduate training in obstetrics and gynaecology at the National University Hospital and KK Women’s & Children’s Hospital, Singapore. He holds memberships and fellowships with prestigious organisations, including the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists (London) (MRCOG), the Academy of Medicine (Singapore), the Chapter of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists (Singapore), and the International College of Surgeons (USA).

Currently, Dr Yam serves as an assistant professor at the Duke University (USA) – NUS Graduate Medical School. He was formerly a clinical tutor in the Faculty of Medicine at NUS from 2000 to 2006. Dr Yam has been a trainer for the yearly Regional MRCOG Part II examination course in Singapore from 2003 to 2020 and served as an examiner for the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School Clinical Performance Examination in 2012.

Dr Yam has published numerous articles in scientific journals and contributed to many books on obstetrics and gynaecology, covering topics such as minimally invasive surgical techniques, vaginal hysterectomy, intrapartum foetal surveillance, gestational diabetes, and the management of gynaecological emergencies. His research on intrapartum foetal surveillance is cited in "Williams Obstetrics," a premier international reference textbook on obstetrics.

He frequently delivers public talks and lectures in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Southeast Asian region on various topics, including pregnancy care, fibroid and ovarian cyst treatment, minimally invasive surgery, menopause issues, and urogynaecology. Dr Yam has been recognised for his exceptional clinical service standards, receiving accolades such as the Excellent Service Award 2005 from KK Women’s & Children’s Hospital-EXSA Singapore, the Service from the Heart Exemplary Award 2005 – 2006 from KK Women’s & Children’s Hospital, and the Faculty Appreciation Award for Outstanding O & G Leadership in 2012, as voted by the graduating class of 2014 at Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School.
