Dr David Tan Meng Kiat is a Consultant Hand Surgeon specialising in hand surgery. He currently practises at Orthopaedic and Hand Surgery Partners on Thomson Road and Napier. Dr Tan's expertise covers a range of orthopaedic and hand procedures, including wrist arthroscopy, microsurgery and ligament reconstruction. His clinical interests focus on conditions such as traumatic wrist disorders, wrist instability, forearm axis deformities, traumatic elbow instability and elbow contractures.
Dr Tan graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1998 and began his specialist training in hand surgery in 2005, qualifying in 2008. His qualifications include MBBS (Singapore), MRCS (Edinburgh) and M.Med. (Surgery) (Singapore). Dr Tan completed a one-year ACGME-accredited fellowship in hand surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York in 2011-2012.
Prior to entering private practice, Dr Tan was a senior consultant in the Department of Hand and Reconstructive Microsurgery at the National University Hospital. He was the Residency Programme Director of the Department from 2012 to early 2020. During his time at NUH, he worked on various hand surgical conditions, including microsurgery, peripheral nerve surgery and traumatic hand and wrist conditions.
He is also an assistant professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and a visiting consultant at various institutions, including Changi General Hospital, Ng Teng Fong General Hospital and Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.
Dr Tan has been involved in professional organisations, serving as President of the Singapore Society for Hand Surgery (2017-2019). He has participated in the Singapore Wrist Arthroscopy Course since 2016 and has presented at national and international conferences. Dr Tan has also contributed to the advancement of the understanding and knowledge of hand surgery through scientific and media publications.
Dr Tan is accredited to perform surgical procedures at the Thomson Medical Centre.
