Dr Chen Chern Yi is a Gastroenterologist practising at GutCare Singapore, with a special interest in inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s Disease, Ulcerative Colitis) and intestinal ultrasound.

Dr Weihao provides comprehensive care in gastroenterology and hepatology, focusing on the diagnosis and treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases and the use of advanced intestinal ultrasound techniques. An accomplished endoscopist, Dr Weihao is experienced in performing diagnostic scopes such as gastroscopy and colonoscopy, including advanced imaging techniques such as chromoendoscopy and video capsule endoscopy. He is also skilled in interventional procedures like polyp removal, banding of varices, and stomach feeding tube insertion (PEG).

Dr Weihao obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the National University of Singapore in 2008. He furthered his expertise by attaining Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) from the United Kingdom and his Master of Medicine (MMed) in Internal Medicine in 2011 and 2012, respectively.

He completed his specialist training at Tan Tock Seng Hospital and was accredited as a specialist in gastroenterology and hepatology by the Specialist Accreditation Board, Singapore, in 2016. In 2018, Dr Weihao was awarded the Healthcare Manpower Development Programme scholarship by the Ministry of Health to undergo subspecialty training in inflammatory bowel disease and clinical nutrition at Austin Hospital, Australia. He also trained in Germany, becoming one of the first local gastroenterologists proficient in intestinal ultrasound.

Dr Weihao previously practiced gastroenterology and hepatology at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital, where he established the hospital’s inflammatory bowel disease and point-of-care intestinal ultrasound services. He played a crucial role in the hospital nutrition support team, managing malnourished patients on parenteral nutrition and those with short bowel syndrome and intestinal failure.

Dr Weihao has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications in renowned medical journals such as the British Medical Journal Open Gastroenterology and the POCUS journal. He served as a clinical physician faculty member for the NUHS Gastroenterology Senior Residency Programme and trained aspiring gastroenterologists. Additionally, he was a clinical teacher for medical students from Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS), and Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, National Technological University.
