Dr Leonard Ang Pek Kian is Senior Consultant Ophthalmologist at Lang Eye Centre, at Novena. He has over 25 years of experience.

Dr Ang specialises in cataract surgery, corneal disease treatment and transplantation, glaucoma treatment, retinal disease treatment, complex eye disease management, and refractive surgery, including LASIK, Epi-LASIK, LASEK, and Implantable Contact Lens procedures.

Dr Ang obtained his degrees in ophthalmology from institutions in Singapore, Edinburgh, and London. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS), the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (FRCOpth), and the Singapore Academy of Medicine (FAMS). He also holds a Doctorate of Medicine.

Previously, Dr Ang was an Associate Professor at the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC) and the Department of Ophthalmology at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS. He served as Medical Director at The Eye & Cornea Transplant Centre and the Premium Lasik Surgery Clinic. He has trained at prestigious eye centres globally, including the University of Pennsylvania, Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine, and Harvard Medical School.

Dr Ang specialises in treating complex blinding eye diseases. He trained with Professor Shigeru Kinoshita, a world expert in cornea and stem cell transplantation, and has developed innovative methods for cornea and stem cell transplantation, cornea and ocular surface stem cell expansion, and bioengineering of eye tissues for ocular surface transplantation and reconstruction. He introduced bioengineered oral stem cell transplantation for severe cornea disease in Singapore.

At MEEI, Harvard Medical School, Dr Ang trained with Professor Claes Dohlman, the inventor of the Boston keratoprosthesis artificial cornea transplantation. Upon returning to Singapore, Dr Ang performed the earliest series of Boston keratoprosthesis transplantations in Singapore and South East Asia, and has helped to restore the vision of many local and international patients with complex cornea diseases. He also performed the earliest series of Paediatric Boston keratoprosthesis transplantations in Singapore and South East Asia for blinding childhood cornea diseases.

Dr Ang has received numerous awards, including the Singapore National Academy of Science Young Scientist Award in 2005. He has published over 90 articles in international journals, authored seven book chapters, and presented at more than 130 medical conferences. His pioneering work in cornea and stem cell transplantation has restored vision for many patients with complex corneal diseases.

Dr Ang is accredited to perform surgical procedures at Thomson Medical Centre, Mount Elizabeth Hospital, and Parkway East Hospital.
