Dr Joshua Loh Ping Yun is an accredited Cardiologist and Interventional Cardiologist with Thomson Medical Centre and practices at Capital Heart Centre in Novena.
He has a clinical focus on interventional cardiology and the treatment of complex coronary artery diseases. Dr Loh is highly skilled in performing complex percutaneous coronary interventions (angioplasty), having successfully completed over 5,000 procedures. His expertise includes coronary physiology and imaging, as well as advanced treatments for calcified vessels using techniques such as atherectomy and lithotripsy. He is also proficient in the use of drug-coated balloons, bioresorbable, and drug-eluting stents. Notably, Dr Loh was one of the earliest doctors in Asia to use distal transradial artery access for coronary angiograms and angioplasty.
Dr Loh began his medical journey with a bachelor's degree in Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2003, followed by a Master of Medicine (Internal Medicine) in 2007. He is a member of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP), UK, and completed his specialist training at the National University Heart Centre, Singapore (NUHCS). Furthering his expertise, he was awarded the Academic Medicine Development Award, which allowed him to complete two years of advanced training in interventional cardiology and research at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, USA.
Dr Loh has served as a Senior Consultant, Assistant Professor, and Patient Safety Officer at NUHCS. There, he played a pivotal role in establishing the heart attack and cardiac intensive care services, and introduced the hospital’s pulmonary thrombectomy service. Dr Loh continues to contribute to the medical community as a Visiting Consultant at the National University Health System.
Dr Loh is recognised for his contributions to cardiology through multiple fellowships, including Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, UK; Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC); Fellow of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (FSCAI); Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (FAMS); Fellow of the ASEAN College of Cardiology; Fellow of the Asian Pacific Society of Cardiology; and Fellow of the Asian Pacific Society of Interventional Cardiology.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr Loh is an Assistant Professor at NUS, where he is actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate training, and serves as an examiner for the MBBS examination. He is a sought-after speaker at international conferences, regularly conducting lectures and case demonstrations. Dr Loh is also a regional proctor for complex coronary interventions in Southeast Asia and has been honoured with three Quality Improvement Awards for his dedication to patient care and clinical excellence.
Dr Loh has authored more than 80 papers in leading medical journals and serves as a subspecialty editor for the Singapore Medical Journal, as well as a member of the editorial board for several other journals. He has been the principal investigator for numerous international clinical trials, contributing significantly to advancements in cardiology.
He was the organising chair for the Singapore Cardiac Society’s annual scientific meeting from 2015 to 2017 and continues to hold key positions within the Singapore Cardiac Society, the Chapter of Cardiologists at the Academy of Medicine, Singapore, the Asian Pacific Society of Cardiology, and the Asian Pacific Society of Interventional Cardiology.
